Pastor's Pen

 “After this the Lord appointed seventy-two other and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.   He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.   Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”    - Luke 10:1-2 NIV

Dear Faithful Friends,

My heart is full of gratitude and excitement for the work God’s is doing in our midst!  As you well know, our Administrative Council (now the SAS Leadership Team) approved a campaign for “Building the Future Together” last November.  Since then so much has happened in just these first few months that I want to celebrate and share with you!

Let me begin by saying that when a church starts a “campaign” for any reason (whether for financial stewardship, a building project, church renewal, missional expansion or casting a new vision), just one of these projects would be a challenging undertaking that requires a great deal of energy and effort, with all hands on deck!  So, you can imagine the magnitude of a campaign that encompasses all these factors and more.

Rebekah Simon-Peter’s 5 Surprise Elements of a Jesus-Like Dream certainly will stretch us… Regarding a Jesus-size vision, she says, “It should go beyond/or test our assumptions of what is possible (so make it audacious);  It must be bigger than us;  It scares us;  It is about the flourishing of community, not mere surviving; and, It inspires and unifies people to do a greater things.  Our current campaign encompasses all these elements and inspires us to truly trust in God.  For, with God all things are possible!

Currently we are continuing to Cast the Vision for a great future using Creating a Culture of Renewal;  we have shifted into the simplified accountability structure of governance;  we are progressing with the “Building the Future Together Campaign” — addressing our building and properties needs, mortgage reduction, budget alignment, and implementing fundraising events up to our 180th Anniversary Celebration; and we will be developing a strategic plan for continued church growth, a Discipleship to Apostleship Pathway, and missional alignment that will extend beyond the 2-year campaign, well into the future.

What is even more amazing is our Leadership Team’s engagement for each of these efforts.  We now have Work Teams supporting the Fundraising Efforts, the Budget Alignment, and for the Visioning Team.  Now that we have the SAS Leadership Team structure, each of our LT members are overseeing these Work Teams as a way to fulfill our responsibilities and be more transparent and accountable to one another and our church family.  We also have two new volunteers to help with the annual church audit!  Plus, there’s more about our fundraising efforts in this edition.

Thank you all for your generous support of our church through your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service and your witness!  The harvest is plentiful, so pray to the Lord of the Harvest for more harvest hands!  We will continue to keep you informed along the journey.

Grace and Peace, Pastor Michelle

TIMELINE:  We have ONE Main Goal — “Building the Future Together”

  • By May, show progress in debt reduction, property and building management, and budget alignment;
  • July 2026, renew our mortgage agreement;
  • Nov 2025 to Nov 2027 (2-year plan) — leading to our 180th Anniversary Celebration — with two phases:
    • First year (Nov 2025 to Nov 2026) concentrate on fundraising opportunities to address progress in budget alignment, mortgage reduction, maintaining properties;
    • Second year (Nov 2026 to Nov 2027) focus on the events celebrating the full year of our 180th anniversary, with monthly events;
  • Long term goal (5+ years) strategic planning for a sustainable healthy church growth into the future.
  • The Vision is Cast to give us a focused reminder of our purpose and a guide for being the church together!

Food Pantry Update

The Food Pantry opened September 20,2025 and has been open all but 2 Saturdays since then.  During this time, we have served 238 families representing 468 individuals, ranging in age from 18 months to 86 years old. The majority of our clients have been over 60 (37%) or under 16 (26%).

Since our opening, we have given out over 4,655 non perishable items plus approximately 100 loaves of bread, 10 dozen tortillas, and 12 hams!

In addition to our $1,100 grant from UMC Communities Impacting Poverty Grant, we have recieved significant contribulations in food and $5, 270 in cash donations from church members and the community. Yesterday, February 18, we received twenty 30 pound boxes of food from Islamic Relief USA in honor of Ramadan.

It has been a joy to participate in this project. Our clients are delightful individuals who are exceptionally thankful for the food they recieve. They are very considerate about not taking too much so they can leave plenty for others in need. Many have stated that they didn’t ever think they would find themselves in such need and feel blessed to have a pantry to help them through the week!

Thank you to all of our congregation and community members for your continued support!! A special thank you to Teresa Bell, Sherri Tate, Martha McCracken, Karen & Vicki McCauley, and Susie and Curt Jurnigan  for assistance on Saturdays and filling in when Jim and Gail have been unavailable!!

-Maria Shriver -

Eufaula First United Methodist History

The plans for the new mission called for a stone and brick structure, 110’ long by 34’ wide and 3 stories high.  It would house 100 students and the faculty and would include 21 rooms and spacious halls.  Construction materials and furnishings were shipped by boat form Louisville, KY, up the Arkansas River, then overland by ox-drawn wagons.  The cornerstone was laid on July 19, 1848, which was a big day attended by many of the natives with their chiefs.  The Indians listened with rapt attention to the speeches made and spoke approvingly of both the speeches and the enterprise. It was the largest building project ever attempted in Indian Territory at that time.

Help Needed

We believe everyone is called to serve God's purpose, with each member of Christ’s Body acting as a minister. As Paul writes, the Spirit gives different gifts—wisdom, faith, healing, teaching, encouragement—for the good of all, uniting us as one church. Each gift strengthens our community and fulfills Christ’s teachings.

Now is a great time to reflect on your unique gifts and consider how you can support our congregation. Serving with humility—through prayer, presence, talents, service and witness - helps create an inviting and grace-filled environment. By sharing our gifts in unity, we build up the body of Christ and make a meaningful difference in others’ lives.

We welcome humble helpers for various needs:

  • church office tasks
  • Sunday School or youth
  • worship service roles (hospitality, ushers, tech support)
  • pastoral care (visitation, communion)
  • and more.

If you are interested in discipleship and outreach,

  • such as teaching
  • small groups
  • sports
  • mission projects

there are many opportunities for you to use your gifts and help our church thrive.

If you feel called or need more information, please contact Pastor Michelle!

Friendship Kitchen Website Update

Sharing Our Story of Service

We are excited to share that the Friendship Kitchen section of our ministry website has been refreshed and updated! This update better reflects the heart, history, and impact of one of our church’s most meaningful outreach ministries.

For over a decade, Friendship Kitchen has served as a place of nourishment, fellowship, and compassion in our community — offering a hot meal, a welcoming smile, and a reminder of God’s love to everyone who walks through our doors. What began as a simple act of kindness has grown into a vital weekly ministry supported by faithful volunteers, generous donors, and community partners.

The newly updated webpage highlights:

• The story and mission behind Friendship Kitchen

• Our ongoing commitment to serving free meals every Saturday

• The impact this ministry continues to have in the Eufaula community

• Opportunities for others to volunteer, support, and get involved

We invite you to visit the updated page, learn more about this important ministry, and share it through your social media to help spread the word. By sharing, you help extend the reach of Friendship Kitchen and the spirit of hospitality that defines our church.

Together, we continue to serve with open hands, open hearts, and open doors.

UMM – Men’s Group Launch

This new men’s group is being formed to create a welcoming space for fellowship, faith-centered conversation, and meaningful connection among the men of our church.  As we prepare to get started, we want this group to be shaped by the men who will be part of it. Your input is important to us, we’d love to hear your preferences on meeting times and schedules, including:

First week of the month    Second week of the month     Third week of the month      Morning or evening meetings

Your feedback will help us finalize meeting dates and times in a way that works best for the group.   Please email your preferences to michaelhtaylor@me.com as soon as possible.

We’re looking forward to building a strong and meaningful men’s ministry rooted in faith, fellowship, encouragement, and service—and we truly hope you’ll consider being part of this new chapter.
