Serving Our Community with Food, Fellowship, and Grace

Our Story

Friendship Kitchen began in June 2013 after EFUMC members Kathleen and David Shannon encountered a young couple walking from Eufaula to McAlester on a Saturday in search of a free meal. Their experience revealed a deep need in our community—not only for physical nourishment, but also for compassion and spiritual support.

With the encouragement of Pastor Brannon and the congregation, Friendship Kitchen was born as a community-wide ministry. From the beginning, local churches and organizations were invited to participate, offering a hot meal, friendship, and prayer to anyone who walked through the doors—no questions asked.

More than a decade later, Friendship Kitchen continues to be a living example of Christ’s love in action.

Friendship Kitchen Today

  • Meals are served every Saturday

We currently serve an average of 50–60 guests each week. Friendship Kitchen partners with the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma when supplies are available and is sustained through generous donations and dedicated volunteers. Friendship Kitchen is also a ministry partner of God’s Helping Hands Mission and is highlighted on their website as part of their community outreach efforts.

Community Partners

Friendship Kitchen is made possible through the faithful support of volunteers from across our community, including:

  • Eufaula First United Methodist Church
  • Community Culture Church
  • Wayland Baptist Church
  • Lake Eufaula Christian Church
  • Eufaula VFW
  • Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Beta Iota Chapter

Each group takes turns preparing and serving meals, demonstrating what it looks like when a community comes together to serve.
